Planning a burial or cremation in California

We help you find a licensed cemetery, funeral home, or crematory in California.

We connect you with licensed providers. We never list, sell, or quote the price of a cemetery plot.

This service is free for families.

Before you choose a provider

Check the license first

California cemeteries, funeral establishments, and crematories are licensed by the state's Cemetery and Funeral Bureau. Before you sign anything or send money, confirm the provider's license is current. A provider that will not tell you its license number is a reason to keep looking.

You have pricing rights under federal law

Under the FTC Funeral Rule, a funeral home must give you price information over the phone, without requiring your name or address first. If you visit in person, you can ask for a written, itemized General Price List (GPL) to take with you and compare.

You only have to buy what you choose

You are never required to buy goods or services you did not ask for. For cremation, you may generally use an alternative container instead of a casket, and you may bring in a casket or urn bought elsewhere at no penalty.

Deciding ahead of time gives you room to compare

Planning before a loss, rather than during one, is when you have the most room to compare providers and prices calmly. If you are supporting a family in the middle of a loss right now, take your time with any provider that is pressuring you to decide quickly.

Tell us what you are looking for

We do not ask about a specific plot or its price. We are not licensed to buy, sell, or price cemetery plots, and a provider does that directly with you.

When you send this, you agree we may email you about cemetery and funeral providers.
